Nicola and her mother Ann, living in Cornwall, England, embrace and give a new home to retired battery chickens. These two ladies own around 60 hens and half of them are former battery chickens, who, unfortunately, because of having spent all their lives in cages, are not able to adjust to normal weather conditions and as a result they are more sensitive to cold weather.
In order to deal with this problem, Nicola and Ann knit tiny woolen chicken jumpers. “It’s important to make people aware of the poor conditions the hens live in and the fact that they have no feathers when they are retired,” Nicola said. And our heart just melted.
