A New Acoustic Instrument That Creates Sounds like a Digital Synthesizer

Istanbul-based musician Görkem Şen is the contriver of the Yaybahar, a new electric-free acoustic instrument. The Yaybahar can be played in a variety of different ways using mallets or with a bow. The vibrations from the strings are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums.

These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. The produced sound is amazing, an hypnotic acoustic experience that is very hard to describe. Moments like these are monuments to the creativity of humans.

What you hear in this performance is captured in realtime without any additional effects and with no post audio processing.
