“Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.” This is one of my favorite quotes by Mark Twain that best describes the pure nature of the dogs. Unfortunately, over 1 million dogs are being euthanized only in the United States and especially one breed is particularly targeted.
Pitt bulls are a strong and loyal breed that is badly misinterpreted as dangerous and ferocious. Photographer Sophie Gamund wants to sensitize people over this powerful breed in an ongoing series entitled, "Flower Power: Pit Bulls of the Revolution." Gamund has started this project last summer and has already photographed over 150 pit bulls in shelters across the US, decorating their heads with homemade flower crowns to ‘infuse a softer energy into their imagery’. The result is so affecting as Gamund managed to picture their true nature, this of a dog waiting to love and to be loved.
Gamund's project delivered results as over 100 photographed pitt bulls have been adopted but there are still many more still waiting to find a family. The images below include a gallery of pit bulls still waiting to be adopted. A 2016 calendar is also available along with prints and posters of these beautiful dogs. You can find an updated (adopted/still available) list of pit bulls, Gamund has photographed on her website.
In conclusion, it's important to remember that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
